Unesco in 2015, the International Year of Light, has defined the current century as the century of “Light and Photonics” Thinking in this way, it means that we can dream a century of researches and evolutions in this field. What are the current limits of Li-Fi and what are the research subjects that have to be solved in the next years to continue this progress?
Are the current existing technologies ready to support the next market and technical challenges?
As in the evolution and history of the Radio waves, how can we Imagine a possible future scenario of Li-Fi evolution?
Let’s try to give an overview on these topics and try to imagine together some aspects about the future.

Question 1: What drives you?
My driver is a general curiosity and passion for science and for the creation of solutions that today does not exist.
Question 2: Why should the delegate attend your session?
I’m following a specific line of research and long term vision. Too frequently new technology are observed from short term perspective. For me it is important to remember what really allows today the Phisycs for the current developments and what do we have to wait and research for other evolutions. Thinking in this way probably is helpful for research perspectives and also for strategic investment perspectives.
Question 3: What emerging technologies / trends do you see as having the greatest potential in the short and long run?
About trend, the digitalization of the World can give great advantages to many people and it has to be observed and supported with the best efforts.
One of the most important effort is supporting by new telecommunication approaches and technologies.
Question 4: What kind of impact do you expect them to have?
Telecommunication technologies always had a potential great positive impact on the World. Talking about wireless light application we are just in the beginning of a very long term progress and evolution.
Question 5: What are the barriers that might stand in the way?
Barriers are mainly in the research of this new communication technologies based on light. Light beams are electromagnetic waves like radio waves but they have a completely different dynamics in their interaction with materials. It makes them much more complex to handle than tradidional radio waves.
About Alessandro Pasquali
Alessandro Pasquali was born in 1990 in the Alps of Italy. He studied in Rome and Milano and he spent the last 11 years in Switzerland where he worked at first as High School chemistry and physics professor and then he founded the S-Lux company following his researches that he always conducted in parallel.
He started researches about light transmission when he was 16th years old transmitting informations at just 10 cm of distance. He continued his studies for years and using the same very low power class of LED used in the beginning, he was able to demonstrate for example a transmission by light from Dover Cliffs (England) to Calais (France) accross the English Channel for a total free space distance of 33Km. His Company own different patents and solution on light transmission and photonic applications.
