Taking LiFi mainstream

Mainstream LiFi is just on the horizon. LiFi’s security, safety and bandwidth advantages make it the right solution at the right time. LiFi is a wireless technology that uses light rather than radio frequencies to transmit data. By harnessing the light spectrum, LiFi can unleash faster, more reliable wireless communications with unparalleled security, compared to conventional technologies, such as cellular, WiFi and Bluetooth.

Question 1: What drives you?
Seeing change and consequence in the world at large from my actions is one of my core motivations.

Question 2: Why should the delegate attend your presentation?
LiFi has been around for almost a decade with an ever improving capability (smaller, faster, better, etc.). This presentation will address the steps to getting LiFi in every consumer device.

Question 3: What emerging technologies/trends do you see as having the greatest potential in the short and long run?
The key trends will be increased wireless connectivity with LiFi, leading to integration with a range of systems and the mass-market introduction of AR/VR headsets leading to increased need security and quantum computing.

Question 4: What kind of impact do you expect them to have?
The combination of these technologies will significantly increase the productivity of any organization that embraces these them, leading to lower price-points for consumer-grade really capable AR/VR headsets that will eventually change the way we interact with the world

Question 5: What are the barriers that might stand in the way?
Inertia from existing technologies and assets that need to generate value for the owners. Standardization and certifications are the key enablers that are being addressed with the IEEE 802.11bb Light Communications standard as well as the Light Communications Alliance.

Nikola has over ten years experience working in light communications, specializing in LiFi technology and its commercialization. He’s the current Chair of the IEEE 802.11 Light Communications Study Group, the Vice-Chair of the IEEE 802.15.13 Task Group on Multi-Gigabit Optical Wireless Communications and Vice-Chair of the Light Communications Alliance.

Nikola has a PhD in Wireless Communications from the University of Edinburgh. He’s worked with global clients across multiple industries to define and execute on their ambitious commercial strategies.
