Together we build the LiFi ecosystem

Standards-based, multi-vendor ecosystem. Every day, we do amazing things with light. Where there’s light… there can be wireless communication through LiFi. Within Signify, I am responsible for building a worldwide, cross-industry ecosystem around this latest innovation in lighting. Fast, reliable and safe data communication not using RF but light. How cool is that !?!

A presentation by Musa Unmehopa, Head of Ecosystems and Strategic Alliances for LiFi at Signify.

View of the Speaker

Question 1: Why should the delegate attend your session?
We can only build this ecosystem together. This means that everyone can contribute and have a positive impact, irrespective of where you are in the value chain. In industry alliances and standardization bodies, we already see a coming together of manufacturers at the system, product and component level, as well as service providers, network operators, installers, distributers, governments and regulators, and research and academia. Come find out how you can be part of our journey together!

Question 2: What emerging technologies / trends do you see as having the greatest potential in the short and long run?
Spectrum efficiency gains in the finite and crowded RF domain cannot continue to keep up with the ever-growing increase in demand for data rich applications and use cases. The light spectrum is largely untapped for wireless communications, and offers more capacity by orders of magnitude. Expanding wireless communications into the optical part of the electromagnetic spectrum makes a lot of sense, and will open many new opportunities.

Question 3: What kind of impact do you expect them to have?
With LiFi, we’ll add an attractive option to our toolbox of wireless communications solutions. We will be able to offer relieve for those use cases where RF communication hits physical or regulatory boundaries. And we will be able to support new use cases which today cannot yet be imagined, hopefully spurring a next generation of innovations.

Question 4: What are the barriers that might stand in the way?
I believe, after years of great research and technology advancements, many of the most important boundary conditions are in place to scale up commercial deployment and grow towards a mature market. Now is the time, let’s come together and get it done.
